If Richard Strauss ' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" owes its vast popularity to movie director Stanley Kubrick , Gustav Holst 's "The Planets" got an enormous spike with the advent of the long-playing record and "high fidelity" sound. Hollywood, television and Madison Avenue have been plundering Holst's sonic spectacular for years, cheapening its musical currency in the process.
